Community Involvement ![]() The FACES of Change program partners Crescent properties with local elementary schools with limited resources to improve the quality of education and the educational experience for the children of the community. Crescent Community Relations and the Property Management staff at Carter Burgess Plaza have selected Versia L. Williams Elementary. Through a lengthy nomination process, this school was chosen because of the enthusiastic support of the school faculty and staff, the need for mentoring and resources, and close proximity to downtown (3 miles). During our three year partnership, Crescent and our Carter Burgess Plaza customers will bring many exciting programs and resources to Versia Williams. Over the summer, Crescent employees repainted the cafeteria (including a NEW eagle mascot) and a giant map of the United States (located outside on the concrete play area), served a welcome lunch to the teachers, and through funds raised from lobby vendor sales, provided new landscape for the school entry. This fall, we've kicked off our first Junior Achievement classes for grades 3-5 and classes for grades K-2 will be held in the spring. And, through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters school based mentoring program, we'll be working with "at risk" 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. These programs involve an hour per week commitment for individuals interested in volunteering their time to the children at Versia Williams. Other planned activities include Career Day, school supply drives, teacher and student recognition programs (award sponsorships) and designing/building a new playground. |
